Four weeks into a 90-day prohibition on malt liquor at six convenience stores in the Whiteaker neighborhood, the police department is claiming victory. Fewer homeless people, who the ban targets, are passed out in the street in front of stores previously willing to sell intoxicants to the intoxicated. Full story

Dancing disco lights and energetic go-go dancers surrounded the platform where DJ Food Stamp stood at the Halloween Mash Up on Saturday night. For many students, the event was a fun way to spend Halloween night, dancing to good music. For DJ Food Stamp, the event was another night of mixing some beats and taking multiple song requests for Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

Surcharge permanent add-on to tuition

What was supposed to be a one-time surcharge tacked onto last spring term’s tuition has now become a permanent increase to University tuition, and it’s costing students more than they bargained for. The surcharge, $150 for residents and $350 for non-residents, was approved by the State Board of Higher Education as a one-time emergency measure in March, but this fall the University requested the surcharge be made a permanent part of the tuition base, which the Board approved.

Powershift: Make climate history

According to the top climate scientists at the United Nations, by the year 2015, the human race must stabilize emissions of greenhouse gases and begin to rapidly reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The switch to clean, renewable sources of energy is absolutely necessary to achieve that deadline, and students here at the University, along with students from hundreds of schools across the country, are uniting in recognition of that cause.
