Sam Dotters-Katz and Johnny Delashaw won the race for ASUO executive Friday by 318 votes.

A total of 3,164 students voted in the executive race during the week of primary voting. There will not be a run-off election because Dotters-Katz and Delashaw won a majority with 1,608 votes.

Kari Herinckx and Jesse Hough of the Rock the Yellow slate received 1,290 votes. Drew Cattermole won 119 votes, and write-in candidates received a total of 147 votes.

Senate President Athan Papailiou and former Senate President Sara Hamilton waited outside the ASUO offices for election results to be posted and screamed and hugged exuberantly when they read the results.

"Sam, you're the president!" Hamilton screamed into her cell phone. "Sam, you're the president of the student body!"

None of the executive candidates waited for the results. Delashaw came shortly after the results were posted. Herinckx and Hough never came and neither they nor their campaign manager, Matt Rose, immediately returned phone calls from the Emerald.

Papailiou referred to himself and Hamilton as "campaign co-directors" for Dotters-Katz and Delashaw and said, "Justice has been served."

Hamilton and Papailiou ran for executive last year and lost to President Emily McLain and Chii-San SunOwen in a run-off.

Members of the Oregon Action Team slate and the opposing Rock the Yellow slate gathered outside of the ASUO office awaiting results.

Shortly after the results were posted, Rock the Yellow members left and Oregon Action Team proponents stayed to celebrate.

"It's easy to buy an election," Sen. Nate Gulley, a Rock the Yellow supporter said after hearing the results.

Sen. Diego Hernandez, another Rock the Yellow supporter, said the results were close. "I haven't even processed it yet," he said.

Former Oregon Commentator Editor-in-Chief Ted Niedermeyer said the victory for Oregon Action Team was "a long time coming."

"It makes me feel like all the work I did last year was worth something," he said. "I think the ASUO will never be the same after this."

As far as campaign expenditures which will be released soon, Niedermeyer said the amount of money Dotters-Katz and Delashaw spent on the election "doesn't matter."

"(Rock the Yellow) rigged the elections board," he said. "There's nothing illegal about spending money."

Delashaw said he was feeling incredibly excited after learning of the results.

"Sam and I are ready to represent the student body and as soon as we get in there we are going to do things the way we think they should be done," he said.

Other races won Friday include: Nick Schultz, Senate Seat 2; Jordan Schenck, Senate Seat 3; Tyler Scandalios, Senate Seat 4; Tina Snodgrass, Senate Seat 8; Kate Jones, Senate Seat 9; Nathan Perley, Senate Seat 13; Mikey Latteri, Senate Seat 16; and Sandy Weintraub, Senate Seat 18.

Matt Doty, Nick Berry and Justin Zweber won seats on the Student Recreation Center Advisory Board, Grace Bounds won an at-large seat on the Programs Finance Committee and Tony Mecum won a seat on the EMU Board.

All other races will continue to a run-off next week because no candidate won more than 50 percent of the vote.

Because of a reporter's error, the outcome of one contest was misstated. Tyler Scandalios won outright the race for Senate Seat 4, an EMU Board seat.

Because of an error in the posted election results, the seat won by Tina Snodgrass was incorrect. Snodgrass won the race for Senate Seat 8, an Athletics and Contracts Finance Committee seat.

The Emerald regrets the errors.

The way the article was written clearly construes that Hamilton's justice is because of her loss last year.

If Senator Gulley feels that it's easy to "buy" an election, such a sentiment is totally understandable given his expert status. He knows all about how easy it is to buy things, like trips to Hawaii with my money. (Continued…)

The outcomes of several of your elections were misplaced. Arielle Reid one outright this week for Senate Seat Six on the EMU Board.
