Trying to commodify a symbol of the University is just stupid. I don't even go to football games, but I honestly think that if the university really has a stick that far up their asses, then maybe they should just start charging people for chanting "go ducks."

We pay enough every year to GO to this school that any student has more right to the use of the mascot than any Nike exec or whatever.

Exactly...there are hundred of pictures posted on facebook with the duck, and probably hundreds of videos on facebook from games and various events with the duck...the only difference is they most likely have a lower view count than the i smell roses video.

Doesn't make sense. If a fan gets their picture taken with the mascot and uploads it to facebook - that should not be illegal. How would you notify all the fans that it's illegal? Should the duck carry around a "fine print" sign??

That is the wierdest contract I've ever seen; they are not making any money off the mascot,in any way.How can the students have a football team, and a mascot, and not be allowed to celebrate it,and have fun with it?It's part of being a Duck fan.I think that contract was signing a deal with the Devil;they must have paid a lot of money for the duck copyright, and yet, they and the fans dont seem to have the power to say how its used; Disney still calls the shots, even though the U.of O. bought the mascot from them. That is what I do not understand; once they bought the duck mascot copyright, why is it not the U. of Oregons,'s to do with as they like? And why are the fans being punished for fandom??That contract is rotten as Hell.If I had been at the helm of the University, and seen how tightly controlled the mascot is,by Disney,I would have made and used a different duck, and not used and bought the Disney one. The university and it's students and football fans should have a mascot duck that is not so tightly controlled by a corporation.Maybe they should get a NEW DUCK MASCOT. Give up Donald Duck, and draw and create a new one, separate from a corporation control. There ARE OTHER DUCKS. QUACK!

By U of O's definition of their contract with disney, any posed picture with the mascot posted on facebook is illegal content.
